Georgia (U.S. state)

Georgia election officials and outlets are clarifying common misconceptions ahead of the state's voting process. Key facts: a photo ID (not necessarily a driver's license) is required to vote in person, though a voter registration card is not needed. Absentee ballots require no stated reason but must be received by county offices by 7 p.m. on Election Day, not merely postmarked. Voters must register by the deadline and cast ballots at their assigned polling place. Georgia prohibits ballot photography and campaign attire within 150 feet of polling sites. Results may arrive in stages, since provisional and qualifying military ballots can take extra time to process.

President Trump traveled to Corpus Christi and Lubbock, Texas, to boost Ken Paxton's Senate bid against Democrat James Talarico, part of a final midterm push through traditionally Republican states. Texas has not elected a Democrat statewide in 32 years, but Talarico has gained traction amid Paxton's legal troubles. Elon Musk has poured significant money into stopping Talarico, a point Democrats are using to highlight wealthy influence in politics, echoing a parallel fight in the governor's race between Greg Abbott and Gina Hinojosa. Secretary of State Marco Rubio joined the trip, fueling speculation about his 2028 ambitions, while Vance and Trump also focus on tight races in Michigan and Alaska.

Edwin Brant Frost IV, a prominent Georgia Republican and evangelical powerbroker, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $76 million in restitution after pleading guilty to wire fraud. The case stemmed from the June 2025 collapse of First Liberty Building and Loan, which prosecutors said defrauded more than 300 investors by promising high returns while Frost skimmed millions for himself and relatives. The firm was promoted on conservative talk shows and drew heavily from religious and political networks; investigators said Frost spent hundreds of thousands of investor dollars on political contributions, raising concerns about funding for far-right candidates in Georgia.

With polls suggesting Ken Paxton could lose Texas's U.S. Senate race, Democratic advocates and local officials fear Paxton and the Trump administration might use federal or state power to disrupt voting in Harris County, a Democratic stronghold. Concerns include possible ICE presence near polling places, National Guard involvement, or baseless fraud claims used to contest results, echoing past Trump-era efforts in Georgia, California and Alaska.

Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth says her office has trained staff, secured legal authority to respond to litigation, and increased transparency through livestreamed ballot counting. Democratic Party officials, elected Democrats, and nonpartisan election experts say safeguards and bipartisan oversight make the county's election process resilient to interference or unfounded fraud claims.

All 14 of Georgia's U.S. House seats are up for election on Nov. 3, 2026, with major-party nominees now set in every district. Most incumbents, including Sanford Bishop, Brian Jack, Hank Johnson, Nikema Williams, Lucy McBath, Rich McCormick, Austin Scott, Andrew Clyde and Rick Allen, face challengers, while District 13 features state Rep. Jasmine Clark against Air Force veteran Jonathan Chavez. Candidates include political organizers, veterans, business owners, a physician, a microbiologist and several first-time contenders.

For prediction markets, the races hinge on incumbency, district partisan lean and name recognition, with most seats considered safe for the incumbent party but a handful, such as Districts 1, 2 and 13, drawing closer scrutiny.
