Acton Campaigns in Mahoning Valley Amid Ongoing Clash With Ramaswamy
PN Team • 2 hours ago
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton toured the Youngstown Business Incubator and rallied in Liberty, stressing ties to Mahoning and Trumbull counties ahead of Election Day against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. Acton has repeatedly addressed a Ramaswamy-backed ad featuring her estranged mother, calling her a liar and alleging mental health issues; Gov. Mike DeWine called it exploitative. Both candidates are closing with pitches on Ohio's affordability crisis, with Ramaswamy touting his business background and property-tax executive orders, and Acton emphasizing public-service experience, a working families tax cut, and school funding.
Ramaswamy has self-funded and outspent Acton nearly $80 million to $34 million overall, though Acton has outraised him recently; both have shattered Ohio's gubernatorial fundraising record, and neither has held elected office before. Democrats are banking on a late push, including a Cleveland rally with Barack Obama and expanded early voting, as prediction markets show Acton favored heading into Election Day.

Iowa’s Governor and Senate Races Signal Shifting Political Mood
PN Team • 4 hours ago
Iowa, long reliable MAGA territory, is showing signs of competitiveness. Polls show Democratic state auditor Rob Sand consistently ahead of Republican Zack Lahn in the governor's race, despite outgoing Gov. Kim Reynolds winning by 19 points four years ago and Trump carrying the state by over 13 points. Grassroots activity has grown alongside the polling shift, including No Kings rallies in Dubuque and Des Moines and early-voting pushes. In the Senate race to replace retiring Joni Ernst, Trump-endorsed Republican Ashley Hinson faces organized opposition from Iowans for Decency, a bipartisan PAC formed by her former teachers and fellow alumni, ahead of Democrat Josh Turek's campaign.

Iowa Democrats Eye Gains in 2026 Midterms
PN Team • 3 days ago
Iowa Democrats are hoping the 2026 midterms mark a turning point after nearly a decade of Republican dominance in the statehouse and congressional delegation. Political scientists note Iowa has swung both ways in recent cycles, and Cook Political Report now rates the 1st and 3rd Congressional Districts as leaning Democratic, with the 2nd District a toss-up. The governor's race between Democrat Rob Sand and Republican Zach Lahn also leans Democratic. Analysts cite frustration with GOP control of state and federal government, a large pool of independent voters, bipartisan messaging from candidates like Sand and Senate hopeful Josh Turek, and softer approval ratings for President Trump as factors fueling Democratic optimism ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

- Democratic Party (United States) Portrayed as poised for gains and renewed optimism in 2026 midterms.

New Hampshire Senate Race Tests Sununu Family Brand
PN Team • 4 days ago
John E. Sununu, a Republican and member of New Hampshire's prominent political family, is running for the state's open U.S. Senate seat in 2026 against Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas. Republicans have won a Senate race in the state just three times this century, including Sununu's 2002 victory, underscoring the seat's difficulty for the GOP. His campaign faces headwinds tied to national political conditions, including President Trump's standing and broader midterm dynamics historically unfavorable to the party holding the White House. The race is one of several competitive 2026 Senate contests that could help determine which party controls the chamber.

Ohio Governor Candidates Split on Abortion Policy Ahead of 2026 Race
PN Team • 6 days ago
Ohio's 2026 governor's race could shape how the state's voter-approved reproductive-rights amendment is implemented, since the governor appoints health officials, directs funding, and decides how vigorously to defend abortion restrictions in court. Democrat Amy Acton supports abortion rights and pledges to protect the 2023 amendment while expanding access to contraception and IVF, though she has offered few policy specifics. Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, who did not respond to questions, has previously called himself "unapologetically pro-life" and backed six-week abortion bans during his 2024 presidential run, but has not detailed an Ohio agenda. Libertarian Don Kissick opposes both abortion bans and government efforts to expand abortion access, arguing government should stay out of the issue entirely.
Sources:
Sentiment
- Vivek Ramaswamy Criticized for not responding to questions and vague on his Ohio agenda despite past strict abortion stance.
- Amy Acton Portrayed as supporting abortion rights, though criticized for lacking policy specifics.
- Democratic Party (United States) Mentioned only as Amy Acton's party affiliation, with no additional commentary.
- Republican Party (United States) Associated with Ramaswamy's restrictive abortion stance without direct criticism of the party itself.
- Ohio Central setting of the gubernatorial race and abortion policy debate, described factually.

Texas Latino voters souring on Trump, but not fully embracing Democrats
PN Team • 1 week ago
Polling and interviews across Texas point to a significant erosion of Latino support for President Trump since his 2024 gains, driven by frustration over high prices, gas costs, and aggressive ICE enforcement that has rattled South Texas communities and economies. Strategists describe the shift as a rebuke of Republicans rather than genuine enthusiasm for Democrats, who still carry a damaged brand with many Latino voters. The trend could shape Texas's competitive U.S. Senate race between Ken Paxton and James Talarico, as well as newly redrawn majority-Hispanic congressional districts. Analysts expect Latino support for Democrats to partially rebound toward 2018 levels, but caution that voters remain persuadable and increasingly judge candidates individually rather than by party.
Sources:
Sentiment
- Donald Trump Trump is portrayed as losing Latino support due to economic frustration and unpopular ICE enforcement policies.
- Republican Party (United States) Republicans face erosion of Latino support due to high prices and aggressive ICE enforcement.
- Democratic Party (United States) Democrats are described as having a damaged brand despite some gains in Latino support.
- South Texas South Texas communities and economies are described as rattled by aggressive ICE enforcement.
- James Talarico Talarico is mentioned neutrally as a Senate candidate benefiting from the political shift.
- Ken Paxton Paxton is mentioned as a Senate candidate facing a less favorable political environment among Latino voters.
- Texas Texas is the setting for shifting political dynamics without inherent reputational harm or benefit to the state itself.
- United States House of Representatives Newly redrawn majority-Hispanic congressional districts are mentioned factually in context of political shifts.

Bass and Raman clash in tight Los Angeles mayoral race
PN Team • 1 week ago
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass faces a tough reelection fight against city council member Nithya Raman, backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, ahead of the Nov. 3 election. Bass, who won just 34% in the June primary, is seeking a second term after a rough first stint marked by the Palisades Fire and rising homelessness. Raman, 45, represents a generational and ideological shift, echoing New York's election of democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, though she lacks major local endorsements compared to Bass's establishment backing from Newsom, Harris, and Pelosi. The candidates differ sharply on policing and homelessness, with turnout so far low amid broad voter disillusionment.
Sources:
Sentiment
- Gavin Newsom Cited as establishment backer of Bass, a mildly favorable association.
- Kamala Harris Cited as establishment backer of Bass, a mildly favorable association.
- Zohran Mamdani Referenced positively as inspiration for a democratic socialist political shift echoed by Raman.
- Los Angeles City depicted amid homelessness crisis and political disillusionment, a mildly negative tangential mention.
