A group of about a dozen demonstrators, organized by Japanese American advocacy network Tsuru for Solidarity, walked more than 45 miles over four days between immigration enforcement sites in King County, Washington, linking current immigrant detention practices to the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans under Executive Order 9066. The pilgrimage began at Hing Hay Park in Seattle and was set to conclude with a rally at the ICE detention center in Tacoma. Stops included the Tukwila ICE field office, King County International Airport, and the Puyallup Fairgrounds, site of a wartime temporary incarceration camp.

Organizers, including incarceration camp survivors now in their 80s, are demanding the abolition of ICE, closure of detention centers, and an end to family separations. The event is part of a broader Tsuru for Solidarity tour of detention and historical incarceration sites, with prior stops in Texas and future pilgrimages planned in San Francisco and Honolulu.

The United States commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks Friday with ceremonies at the World Trade Center site, the Pentagon, and the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. President Donald Trump attended the Pentagon observance, while former presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden joined Vice President JD Vance at the New York ceremony, where victims' relatives read the names of the nearly 3,000 people killed. For the first time, organizers added a moment of silence honoring those who later died of cancer and other illnesses linked to toxic dust from the towers' collapse.

The anniversary drew attention to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city's first Muslim mayor, who faced criticism from some Republicans and victims' families for attending the ceremony but said he wanted the day focused on victims' families and first responders. The attacks reshaped U.S. security policy, air travel and foreign policy, launching wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Sept. 11 remains observed nationally as Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

The FAA has denied a petition from Honolulu-based Trident Adventures seeking an exemption from passenger restraint rules to continue its "helocast" tours, in which participants jump from a hovering helicopter into the ocean. The agency concluded that Trident's safety measures, including passenger screening, trained crew and safety swimmers, do not provide an equivalent level of safety to the restraint requirements they would replace, and that they fail to guard against slips, turbulence, windblast or human error. Trident says it has run the activity for about seven years and roughly 3,500 participants without incident, and that its appeal is ongoing with no final decision yet.

Opposition came from U.S. Rep. Ed Case and a North Shore community group, which cited an unrelated $10,000 state fine against Trident for illegal snorkel drops in a protected marine area—fines Trident says were paid but disputes involvement in. U.S. Rep. Morgan Luttrell backed the exemption, citing veteran jobs. Jumps remain suspended pending appeal.
