Lake View, Chicago

Ald. Bennett Lawson (44th) has rejected the Chicago Cubs' proposal to expand the Camry Lot near Wrigley Field beyond the 800 spaces already permitted. The team had sought to grow the lot from 688 to as many as 947 spaces by incorporating the former House of the Good Shepherd property purchased from Catholic Charities. Lawson cited a ward survey in which roughly 90 percent of respondents opposed the expansion, with traffic and pedestrian safety the top concerns.

The ruling does not stop the Cubs from physically building out toward the city-allowed 800-space cap, which can proceed through site-plan approval without aldermanic sign-off. The team says it remains committed to addressing parking demand while awaiting city feedback on a traffic study, and must submit a new site plan as part of a required planned development amendment, which also covers alley compliance and security upgrades ahead of the 2027 MLB All-Star Game at Wrigley Field. Lawson said he wants an updated traffic management plan tested before considering any further expansion.
