The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division is sending roughly 1,000 federal monitors nationwide for Election Day, including to Pennsylvania counties where state law bars them from entering polling places. Asked about an unpopular policy she might pursue, West said she would "fire all Republicans" and remove those aligned with the MAGA movement from county positions, calling them racist and unintelligent while saying she avoids associating with them. She claimed she had been threatened by a nephew of the local sheriff, who allegedly said he would "blow her head off," though Sheriff Zac Jones said he has no nephews and does not know West. Asked for a closing message to voters, West responded, "We have guns too," and cited her experience delivering groceries and packages as a reason to trust her with a vote.

West appeared to have difficulty speaking clearly during portions of the exchange, prompting online speculation about her condition; she has not responded to requests for comment. Video of the forum went viral, with early voting already underway in Fayette County.

Westmoreland County officials say a state inspection of the Westmoreland County Prison conducted last fall found only minor, already-corrected infractions, and that the findings had no connection to the recent firing of Warden Steve Pelesky. Commissioner Doug Chew, chairman of the county's prison board, said the Nov. 5 inspection by the state Department of Corrections identified seven minor findings—three security issues (all inventory control related), two sanitation concerns, and one each involving housing and food safety—with no citations or major deficiencies.

Pelesky was terminated last week after two weeks on paid administrative leave, with officials citing only "employment issues." Deputy Warden Robert Fagan was also removed from his active role and placed on leave, while Deputy Warden Ben Carrillo, hired in March, is now acting top administrator. It is not scheduled for inspection in 2026.

In Pennsylvania's 46th Senate District, a coal- and gas-reliant region, independent candidate Jodi Borello is challenging Republican incumbent Camera Bartolotta after the Democratic nominee withdrew, leaving Borello as the sole challenger. Democrat Bob Harvie, who is challenging Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District, is facing criticism over campaign ads that presented politically active Democrats as ordinary, unaffiliated voters. In one mail piece, Patti Kearins was shown as a concerned voter without disclosing her involvement with the Bensalem Democratic Organization and her past appearances in Pennsylvania Democratic Party ads attacking Fitzpatrick. A separate social media post featured Manuel Galarza as a "Trump voter" without noting his ties to Bucks County Indivisible, a group organized to oppose the GOP agenda, and his history of promoting Harvie's campaign.

The race in the swing district is considered competitive heading into the 2026 midterms, with control of Congress at stake. Critics argue the ads suggest Harvie's campaign is struggling to demonstrate organic, broad-based support, instead relying on figures connected to established Democratic political infrastructure while presenting them as independent voices.
