PN Team • 2 weeks ago
Florida fentanyl-caused deaths fell nearly 60% since 2023, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced, citing the state's S.A.F.E. (State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication) grant program. The Florida Medical Examiners Commission's 2025 Annual Drug Report showed fentanyl deaths dropped 37% from 2024 to 2025 alone, with fentanyl analog deaths down more than 50%. Overall drug-related deaths fell 12%, opioid deaths 33%, cocaine deaths 16%, and methamphetamine deaths 23%.
S.A.F.E.-funded operations led to nearly 3,000 trafficking arrests and seizures including over 600 pounds of fentanyl, 800 pounds of cocaine, and 520 pounds of methamphetamine, plus $6.6 million in cash and nearly 1,000 firearms. Officials say multi-agency stings will continue under the program.
