Ohio Early Voting Surpasses Recent Midterm Totals
PN Team • 4 hours ago
Ahead of Ohio's Nov. 3 general election, early voting has already topped totals from the 2018 and 2022 midterms, with nearly 1.5 million ballots cast by Oct. 30 — about 907,000 in person and 580,000 by mail. Unlike past cycles, voters have shifted toward in-person early voting over mail-in ballots, which analysts attribute to convenience and distrust of postal delivery timelines. The race includes open contests for every statewide executive office plus U.S. Senate and congressional seats that could shift the balance of power in Washington.
Statewide, unaffiliated voters lead turnout, followed by registered Democrats and Republicans, though the partisan gap is narrow and varies by county. Early in-person voting ends Nov. 1, with all ballots due by 7:30 p.m. on Election Night.

Dayton NAACP Pushes for Clemency for China Arnold
PN Team • 2 days ago
The Dayton Branch of the NAACP is asking Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to grant executive clemency to China Arnold, 46, who is serving life without parole for the 2005 microwave death of her 28-day-old daughter, Paris Talley. Arnold was convicted in her third trial in 2011 after a mistrial and an overturned conviction; she has maintained her innocence throughout. NAACP President Derrick Foward called her a model inmate and noted her three surviving children have grown up without her. The group is urging DeWine to act before he leaves office in January, framing the case as a test of clemency and sentencing proportionality in Ohio's justice system.

Tennessee lawmaker Ronnie Glynn under TBI investigation over residency claims
PN Team • 2 weeks ago
State Rep. Ronnie Glynn (D-Clarksville), who has represented Tennessee House District 67 since 2022, is under active investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation over allegations he does not actually live in the district. The probe, launched at the request of 19th Judicial District Attorney General Robert Nash, centers on two Clarksville properties roughly nine minutes apart: a house Glynn owns in neighboring District 68, and an apartment inside District 67 that he claims as his residence and has listed on election and ethics disclosure forms.
Glynn denies wrongdoing and says the timing, weeks before he faces Republican challenger Chris Lanier in November, suggests political motivation. He declined to name who he believes is behind the allegations. Tennessee law requires state representatives to live in the districts they represent, making the outcome of the investigation potentially significant for Glynn's eligibility to hold his seat and for the competitiveness of the District 67 race.
Sources:
Sentiment
- Republican Party (United States) Mentioned only as the party of Glynn's electoral challenger, without direct reputational framing.
- Tennessee Mentioned only in reference to state residency law applicable to legislators, a neutral factual context.

PN Team • 2 weeks ago
Ann Arbor's city clerk's office has outlined early voting plans for the Nov. 3 election. Early voting begins Wednesday, Oct. 21, at two University of Michigan campus sites (the Museum of Art and Duderstadt Center) and expands Saturday, Oct. 24, to four branch libraries—Malletts Creek, Traverwood and Westgate—plus city hall. Early voting runs daily through Sunday, Nov. 1, with voting hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the library and campus sites, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at city hall.
Voters can register and check status online via the Michigan Voter Information Center, or register in person with proof of residency after Oct. 20. The clerk's office will extend hours in the final days before the election, and satellite registration is available at the UM voting sites. Standard polling locations are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Absentee ballots must reach the clerk's office by 8 p.m. on Election Day; the Veterans Memorial Park drop box has relocated to Fire Station 3.
Statewide, Michigan law bars release of early or absentee totals before 8 p.m. on Election Day, and bipartisan verification steps mean full results typically take time to post. Ann Arbor voters will decide local, state and federal races, plus ballot proposals.

Alabama’s 2nd District race tightens as redrawn map tests Figures-Marques matchup
PN Team • 3 weeks ago
Alabama's redrawn 2nd Congressional District has become one of the nation's most closely watched House races. Democratic Rep. Shomari Figures, who won the seat in 2024 when it was a Black-opportunity district, now faces Republican state Rep. Rhett Marques after a court-ordered redistricting process made the district whiter, more rural, and carried by Trump by roughly 14 points in 2024. That shift makes Marques the favorite, but handicappers like Cook Political Report and Sabato's Crystal Ball still rate the race "likely" or merely "lean" Republican rather than safe.
Turnout among Black voters in Montgomery, the district's largest population center, is seen as decisive for Figures, while Marques leans on the heavily Republican Wiregrass region and an endorsement from Sen. Katie Britt. Figures leads in cash on hand despite similar overall fundraising totals. One recent partisan poll showed the race tied. Analysts say the outcome could help determine whether Democrats retake the House and could expand a bloc of Southern Republicans elected under newly redrawn, less minority-protective maps.
Sources:
Sentiment
- Rhett Marques Marques is described as the favorite in a competitive race, a favorable positioning.
- Katie Britt Britt's endorsement of Marques is portrayed as a political asset boosting his campaign.
- Republican Party (United States) The redrawn map and favorite status favor Republicans, suggesting an expanding Southern GOP bloc.
- Democratic Party (United States) The race is framed as a potential pickup opportunity that could help Democrats retake the House.
- Donald Trump Trump is referenced as having carried the district by a wide margin, a neutral electoral fact though tied to partisan shift.
- Montgomery, Alabama Montgomery is cited as a key population center whose Black voter turnout could decide the race, a neutral to mildly positive civic role.
- Alabama Alabama is mentioned as the setting for the race without specific reputational framing.
- United States House of Representatives Neutral factual reference to the chamber at stake in the election.
- United States Senate Mentioned only as the body Katie Britt serves in, with no direct bearing on reputation.

Trump to hold midterm rally in Clarksville, Tennessee
PN Team • 3 weeks ago
President Donald Trump is set to headline a midterm rally Saturday at F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Tennessee, a venue that holds up to 6,000 people. City streets began closing Friday ahead of the event, and law enforcement has warned attendees to expect delays and road closures downtown.
The rally comes as early voting opens the following Wednesday, with Republicans hoping Trump's appearance energizes turnout for the midterms and the state's governor's race. Local GOP figures, including the Montgomery County Young Republicans, say they are counting on the visit to boost enthusiasm. But reaction in the community is mixed: some residents and Democratic organizers point to recent local shifts, including a flipped county commission and new Democratic school board members, as signs of changing political sentiment in the county. Supporters and critics alike are expected to turn out as the rally underscores the stakes both parties see in Tennessee's upcoming elections.
