Delaware County, Pennsylvania has outfitted all 31 sheriff's deputies with new body cameras featuring built-in real-time language translation, officials announced this week. The $326,090 purchase, approved by county council, is intended to improve transparency, accountability and recordkeeping during interactions between deputies and residents.

Sheriff Siddiq Kamara said the translation feature is especially valuable given the county's linguistic diversity, helping deputies communicate during emergencies when language barriers might otherwise slow response times. Deputy Chris Donlon noted that encounters where residents speak Spanish or other languages are common in the field. County Council member Dr. Monica Taylor said the rollout reflects a broader shift toward using technology to strengthen governance and public trust. All 31 cameras are already in active use across the department.

Two Delaware County, Indiana parents, Kevin Herrman, 41, and Stormy Slough, 30, face child neglect and criminal confinement charges after sheriff's deputies found their four children living in squalid conditions. Court records describe children sleeping on filth- and feces-covered floors with no beds except in the parents' room, no working toilets, and children forced to defecate in plastic bags. The two 4-year-olds' feet were reportedly covered in filth, and there was insufficient clothing for all four kids. Herrman allegedly admitted locking children in rooms without working lights to keep them from "tearing up the home."

The county Health Department declared the home unfit for human habitation. Investigators say both parents blamed the children for the conditions rather than accepting responsibility. The case came to light after a report from the children's school to Indiana's Department of Child Services; officials are urging the public to report suspected abuse. All four children have been placed in DCS custody, and both suspects face initial hearings in the coming weeks.

The body of 18-year-old Matthew Morey has been recovered from the Mississinewa River in Delaware County, Indiana, the county sheriff's office confirmed Saturday, ending a days-long search. Morey went missing Wednesday after a group jumped from a bridge at County Road 450 East and Gregory Road into the river; three others who jumped were located, but Morey could not be found.

Search and rescue teams, including boats, aircraft, UAVs, K9 units and personnel walking the riverbanks, worked to locate Morey, but rising water levels, swift currents and heavy debris repeatedly forced crews to pause operations for safety reasons, with the search briefly suspended Thursday afternoon. Officials said the search continued until Morey's body was found, fulfilling a commitment made to his family. The sheriff's office asked the community to keep Morey's family, friends and classmates in their thoughts as they grieve.
