Texas Republicans Gill and Fallon compete to lead House Oversight Committee
PN Team • 2 months ago
First-term Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Flower Mound, is seeking to become the top Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, setting up a contest with fellow Texan Rep. Pat Fallon of Sherman, who announced his own bid in April. Current chair James Comer of Kentucky is term-limited under GOP rules and will step down when the new Congress convenes in January.
Gill, the youngest Republican in the House, has built a large following through viral clips of combative committee questioning, including exchanges with Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and a former American Bar Association president. Comer named him chair of a committee task force on constitutional rights in May. Fallon, a fourth-term lawmaker, points to six years of oversight work on the committee as his case for the role.
The Oversight Committee is the House's chief investigative panel. Whether the winner becomes chair or ranking member depends on which party controls the House after the November midterms.
