Florida National Guard and Greece establish State Partnership Program
PN Team • 4 weeks ago
The Florida National Guard and the Hellenic Armed Forces formally launched a State Partnership Program relationship at a signing ceremony in Athens on Oct. 7. Maj. Gen. John D. Haas, Florida's adjutant general, and Gen. Dimitrios Choupis, chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, signed the agreement before U.S. and Greek military and civilian leaders.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle attended the event. Rubio described the partnership as another building block in a modernized U.S.-Greece alliance, noting potential exchanges around Florida's hurricane response experience and Greece's expertise in earthquakes and wildfires. The agreement creates a framework for recurring military-to-military engagements aimed at improving interoperability, readiness and regional security cooperation. Officials framed the signing as the start of a long-term relationship rather than a one-time milestone, built on existing cultural and historical ties between Florida and Greece.
