PN Team • 4 weeks ago
The Mableton, Georgia, City Council voted 7-0 to appoint Anita Allen as the city's first chief of police during a special-called meeting, a key step in standing up the new municipality's own police department. Allen currently serves as police chief at Albany State University, overseeing campus safety, emergency management, E911 dispatch and criminal investigations across three campuses. She previously held leadership roles as public safety director and police chief at Fort Valley State University and spent 12 years with the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office. Allen is also noted as the first Black female president of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and serves on the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
City officials praised her experience as critical to shaping the department's culture and operations. Allen will begin her duties in the coming weeks, leading the design, staffing and rollout of the force, with full municipal police operations targeted to launch by June 1, 2027.
