Arizona congressional candidate arrested over alleged threats to judge, attorney

David Redkey, a Green Party candidate running for Arizona's 3rd congressional district, was arrested over the weekend and faces two counts of threatening or intimidating and one count of computer tampering, according to court records. Prosecutors said he sent threatening messages involving guns targeting a judge and an attorney; the Maricopa County Attorney's Office asked that arrest documents be sealed to protect victims' information. Redkey was booked into jail Saturday with bond set at $150,000, and his next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Though registered as a Green Party candidate, the Arizona Green Party has said it opposes his candidacy over a pattern of alleged abusive behavior that led to his ban from the Arizona Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of Phoenix. Redkey had participated in a debate against No Labels candidate Alan Aversa in August; Democratic incumbent Yassamin Ansari did not take part. The arrest introduces uncertainty into the race ahead of the general election.
