ICE disputes the account, saying Parra Hernandez fled on foot after officers tried to stop a vehicle linked to an enforcement target and "ran in front of" an ICE vehicle. Texas legislators are debating whether to mandate five-day school weeks after data showed the state's 4th and 8th grade reading scores now trail Mississippi's, a state once ranked near the bottom nationally. A federal lawsuit filed in Houston accuses several hotel operators and properties — including Budget Inn, Palace Inn, Days Inn, Camelot Inn, Hotel Royale, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts — of enabling and financially benefiting from the sex trafficking of minors. The suit, filed on behalf of a teenage victim identified as Jane Doe who was allegedly trafficked in Houston in 2022, claims traffickers used hotel rooms to carry out the exploitation while employees had opportunities to recognize warning signs and failed to intervene.

S&P Global has revised its outlook on Houston's Combined Utility System (CUS) from stable to negative, while affirming its AA+ credit rating. The change follows a city decision to shift the Waste and Recycling budget from the general fund into CUS, a move that stabilized Houston's general fund outlook but added financial strain to the utility system. S&P said it will watch how the city plans to raise revenue to cover the added costs.
