St. Louis Fire Captain Bradley Trower received an "Excellence in Service" award from Mayor Cara Spencer and Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson after devising a quick fix for dozens of fire hydrants damaged by theft. Investigators say a suspect had stolen brass valves from hydrants to sell as scrap metal, rendering them inoperable. Trower built an emergency adapter overnight that lets firefighters connect hoses to the damaged hydrants, allowing enough water flow for apparatus to function despite some leakage. Police arrested a suspect believed responsible for the thefts earlier this month.

Akron Municipal Court and Glendale Cemetery will hold a free public ceremony on Monday, Nov. 9, honoring former U.S. Rep. John F. A Pinellas County, Florida sheriff's deputy stepped in to finish a pizza delivery after the driver making the run was involved in a car crash. One deputy drove to the customer's address and handed over the order personally, prompting thanks from the recipient. The sheriff's office shared the exchange on Facebook, framing it as a small act of community service amid the crash response.

Akron officials and residents rededicated Schneider Park as Schneider Memorial Park on Oct. 28, honoring hundreds buried there between 1866 and 1919 as part of the Summit County Infirmary, which housed the poor, disabled, elderly, and others unable to support themselves. The renaming followed a nine-year effort led by resident Jane Greenland, aided by anthropologist Timothy Matney and researcher Carolyn Behrman, whose students mapped roughly 328 burials. Only 308 death certificates survived a fire, making records scarce. Ward 4 Councilwoman Jan Davis introduced the renaming resolution, which City Council unanimously passed, with Mayor Shammas Malik and others attending the ceremony honoring the long-unmarked dead.

Nine tourists hospitalized after a pedal tavern was struck Thursday night in Nashville's Gulch neighborhood are all in stable condition, according to Metro police. Nashville Pedal Tavern, which has operated in the city for 16 years, said it was "deeply saddened" by the crash. The Nashville District Attorney's Office is reviewing whether to charge the driver with distracted driving.

Mayor Freddie O'Connell said the city is pursuing safety projects but acknowledged distracted driving is largely an awareness problem. Residents say pedal taverns are a community staple that increasingly compete with inattentive drivers for road space.
