Collingswood Voters End Alcohol Ban; Camden County Approves Flood Tax
PN Team • 10 hours ago
Collingswood voters repealed the New Jersey borough's 19th-century ban on alcohol sales, with just over 60% backing the change in preliminary results. The move ends a dry-town policy tied to Collingswood's Quaker heritage. Local rules on liquor licenses and eligible businesses have yet to be set; the borough plans to award licenses through a public bidding process, so a start date for sales remains unclear. The same ballot saw voters reject a $4.56 million school operating bond.
Separately, Camden County voters approved a one-cent open space tax increase, about 79% in favor, to fund flood reduction, sewer upgrades, and water-quality protections, costing the typical homeowner roughly $1.83 more per month starting next year.
