Miami Voters Reject Rickenbacker Marina Redevelopment Deal
PN Team • 2 days ago
Miami voters rejected Referendum 3 by more than 65%, blocking a city plan to lease roughly 28 acres of Rickenbacker and Marine marina properties to a private developer for renovation, new docks, boat storage, restaurant space and a public baywalk. The deal would have guaranteed the city at least $2.2 million annually plus a share of gross revenues over a 45-year lease. Opposition grew around concerns for the local restaurant Gramps Getaway, whose owner led a "Save Gramps" campaign that mobilized residents against outside development. Supporters, including developer Virginia Key LLC, said they would continue pursuing the project despite the defeat.
