Suspect in Harris County deputy shooting captured after overnight manhunt
PN Team • 1 month ago
A suspect accused of shooting a Harris County sheriff's deputy was captured Thursday morning after an 11-hour manhunt in Channelview, Texas, ended when a neighbor's barking dogs alerted authorities to a backyard shed. Deputies had responded to a domestic dispute call Wednesday evening when shots were fired, wounding a deputy in the leg. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Chase Layne Patin, then stole a marked patrol vehicle, abandoned it about a mile away, and fled on foot into nearby neighborhoods.
Sheriff's deputies, county investigators and U.S. Marshals conducted a door-to-door search overnight, evacuating a home before Patin surrendered without further incident. The wounded deputy was hospitalized, and officials said the residents of the home near the shed had no connection to Patin. Court records show Patin had an active warrant for bond forfeiture and prior arrests involving weapons, DUI and narcotics charges. He now faces three first-degree felony charges of aggravated assault against a police officer.
