Three candidates seek two seats on Jackson Public Schools board
PN Team • 1 month ago
Jackson, Michigan voters will choose two school board members in the Nov. 3 general election from a field of three candidates: incumbent Tyshon Gray, Tabitha Williams and William Baird. The winners will serve six-year terms on the Jackson Public Schools Board of Education. A separate partial-term seat, running through Dec. 31, 2030, drew no registered candidates, though Kelli Hoover is campaigning as a write-in.
Gray and Williams responded to a League of Women Voters/Vote411.org candidate questionnaire; Baird did not. Gray, a current trustee and recent JPS graduate, emphasized student voice, youth development and alumni networking, and said he would protect free lunches and teacher pay if funding fell. Williams, a JPS alumna and board trustee who helped oversee a $126 million bond program, stressed literacy and math achievement, safe schools, and transparent, measurable budgeting. Both candidates addressed inclusion policies and support for responsible use of social media and AI in schools. The race has no direct bearing on prediction markets but reflects local governance dynamics ahead of the broader November ballot.
