San Francisco Sues Trump Media Over Paid Early Access to Truth Social Posts
PN Team • 1 month ago
San Francisco filed a lawsuit on Sept. 22 against Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, over its "Truth API" service that lets subscribers pay up to $100,000 a month for early access to posts from 10 high-profile accounts, including President Donald Trump's. City Attorney David Chiu alleges the service, launched Aug. 1, monetizes nonpublic information tied to Trump's official position, violating California's Unfair Competition Law and principles underlying federal insider-trading protections. The suit claims the arrangement gives paying subscribers, including sophisticated trading firms, an unfair edge over ordinary investors in financial markets. It seeks a court order halting the service.
The case is the second targeting the product; The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation sued in Manhattan federal court in August on similar grounds. Other accounts covered by the service include Vice President JD Vance, RFK Jr., Kash Patel, and the White House. Trump Media did not respond to requests for comment.
