Volusia County authorities arrested Daytona Beach resident Allison Albro, 21, after she posted on social media that she was "going to the Trump rally in my city" to "shoot him with my glock." The post came ahead of President Donald Trump's Friday evening rally at the Ocean Center. Sheriff Mike Chitwood said Albro told investigators and the U.S. Secret Service the post was a joke and that she had no access to a firearm. She faces charges of written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device. Officials said local, state and federal agencies are coordinating security for the visit.

A 26-year-old Syracuse, New York man, Christopher Vignogna, has been charged federally after allegedly plotting to shoot President Donald Trump at an upcoming rally in Syracuse. Prosecutors say Vignogna asked a co-worker on Oct. 7 to see if her boyfriend could get him a handgun, telling her, "Trump is coming to Syracuse and I want to shoot him."

Vignogna was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mitchell J. Katz on Oct. 9, 2026, and released on conditions pending trial. The charge carries up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release. The U.S. Secret Service led the investigation, with assistance from the FBI's Albany office and the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office; Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Whalen is prosecuting the case for the Northern District of New York. First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Charles T. Perras said the arrest reflects the seriousness with which threats against the president are investigated and pursued, and credited coordination among state, local and federal agencies in the swift response.

A Syracuse, New York man has been federally charged after telling a co-worker he wanted to obtain a gun to shoot President Donald Trump during Trump's political rally in Syracuse last Friday.

Christopher Vignogna, 27, was charged with making threats against the president and pleaded not guilty in federal court in Syracuse, where he was released. According to an affidavit from a Secret Service special agent, Vignogna admitted making the comments to his co-worker but said he was joking and did not expect to be taken seriously. The co-worker told police Vignogna made a hand gesture simulating a gun and said she was "in utter disbelief" at his remark, which she reported to her employer's human resources department before it reached local police, the Secret Service, and the FBI.

Onondaga County prosecutors separately obtained a temporary extreme risk protection order barring Vignogna from purchasing or possessing firearms, with a hearing scheduled for this week. He was not charged with state crimes.

A 27-year-old Syracuse, New York man, Christopher Vignogna, is not expected to face criminal charges after telling a co-worker he wanted to obtain a gun to shoot President Donald Trump during a planned Syracuse rally. The remark, relayed to the co-worker's employer and then to Rome police, prompted a rapid response from the Secret Service, FBI and Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, who interviewed Vignogna at his home and searched the property with his cooperation.

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick called the comment an "extremely poor joke" and said Vignogna was determined not to pose a threat. Prosecutors nonetheless sought and won a temporary extreme risk protection order barring him from buying or possessing firearms, with a court hearing set for next week. The case underscores the heightened security posture around Trump's public appearances and the use of red flag laws to preempt potential threats even absent criminal intent.

The U.S. Secret Service, alongside DuPage County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police, PGA Tour officials, and other local agencies, has spent years coordinating security for the Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club, now intensified by President Trump's planned attendance. It marks his first visit to the Chicago area since 2019. Illinois National Guard Black Hawk and other military helicopters are staging in nearby Schaumburg, and heightened security measures are visible on the ground in Medinah.

Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Derek Mayer said spectators should expect amplified screening as they enter the course, with agents adapting standard protective measures to the open-air golf venue. Some protests have already occurred ahead of the visit, though officials say it remains unclear if they will grow large. The added protection comes as the Secret Service simultaneously manages security for Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit, a Trump appearance at a Tennessee football game, and upcoming midterm campaign stops.

Reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were readmitted to the White House Thursday, hours after U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a temporary restraining order requiring the administration to restore their press credentials. The three outlets initially remained blocked Thursday morning even after the ruling, with Politico saying a reporter's badge was confiscated and CNN and MS NOW reporting denied entry, prompting an emergency court filing before access was granted by midday.

Trump announced the ban last Friday, citing what he called "fake news," before the administration later argued the outlets' reporting endangered national security. Kelly rejected that justification, finding the revocation likely violated due process and that Trump's own statements showed the ban was motivated by dissatisfaction with negative coverage rather than security concerns. The order lasts 14 days while litigation continues. In solidarity, the five-network White House press pool, including CNN, has withheld footage of Trump's events. The dispute unfolded amid high-profile coverage of Xi Jinping's visit and the U.N. General Assembly.

CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a lawsuit in federal court in Washington seeking to restore White House access after their reporters were denied entry and had press credentials revoked following Trump's announcement banning the outlets over what he called "fake news" coverage. The suit, naming Trump, aide Steven Cheung, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Secret Service Director Sean Curran, argues the ban violates First Amendment press freedoms and 14th Amendment due-process rights, calling it unconstitutional "viewpoint discrimination." It cites the 1977 Sherrill v. Knight precedent barring arbitrary denial of press passes based on coverage content, as well as the earlier Jim Acosta case.

Trump denied targeting a free press, calling it instead an "assault on the FAKE News." The White House Correspondents' Association backed the outlets, warning the standard could be applied to any news organization. Separately, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News said they would no longer supply camera crews for White House pool coverage after CNN was removed from pool duties, leaving no television crews traveling with Trump to the UN General Assembly.

CNN, MS NOW (formerly MSNBC) and Politico filed an emergency First Amendment lawsuit Monday in the DC District Court seeking to restore White House access after President Trump revoked their reporters' credentials over coverage he called "fake news." Reporters Betsy Klein (CNN), Akayla Gardner (MS NOW) and Cheyenne Haslett (Politico) had their press badges disabled Saturday and were denied entry; CNN also lost its pool coverage slot, meaning no television network traveled with Trump that day, an unprecedented gap.

The lawsuit names Trump, chief of staff Susie Wiles, spokesperson Steven Cheung and Secret Service chief Sean Curran, arguing the ban is unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination lacking due process, citing precedent involving Jim Acosta and the Associated Press. White House Correspondents' Association president Jacqui Heinrich and press-freedom advocates called the move "textbook viewpoint discrimination," warning the precedent could later be used against any outlet. Trump has said he might expand the ban further, and legal experts widely expect courts to strike it down.
