Texas Investigates Three Food Brands Over Avocado Oil Mislabeling

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has opened an investigation into three food companies after a University of California, Davis study found widespread mislabeling of avocado oil products. The July study, published in Applied Food Research, tested 54 avocado oil-labeled products from two dozen brands and found that 48 of them actually contained cheaper oils such as canola and safflower rather than pure avocado oil.
Paxton sent letters seeking more information from PepsiCo's Siete Foods, Kraft Heinz-owned Primal Kitchen, and Chosen Foods, all named in the study. The inquiry centers on whether these companies failed to disclose the use of seed oils, a topic tied to the Make America Healthy Again movement championed by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Chosen Foods said it stands behind its products and will cooperate with the investigation, but declined further comment given the ongoing matter.
