Michigan Voters Reject Constitutional Convention Proposal
PN Team • 18 hours ago
Michigan voters are rejecting Proposal 1, a ballot question asking whether to hold a convention to rewrite the state's 1963 Constitution. Early unofficial results show the measure losing by a wide margin. The question appears automatically every 16 years and has failed in each of its last three appearances, including a 67%-33% defeat in 2010.
Had it passed, voters would have elected 148 delegates next spring to draft a new constitution, subject to final voter approval. A broad coalition of conservatives and liberals campaigned against the measure, while no organized "yes" campaign emerged, though some, including GOP strategist Dennis Lennox, argued for modernizing outdated constitutional language.
